On the basis of multiple collaborations and recent scientific achievements in the field of space remote sensing, the geomatics research team of the Catholic University of Louvain gathered all the cartographic data on the territory of the DR Congo. The existing digital data was checked, updated, enriched from all available sources and integrated into a Geographic Information System (GIS). Original information was produced combining the most recent techniques of satellite earth observation and the field knowledge of many national and international collaborators. This work enabled the production of a new national map at 1: 2,000,000 including all the basic cartographic information (road, town and village, rivers, infrastructure, etc.).
