This new, flexible trail appeals to both walkers and cyclists. Walk 50 miles from Loch Tay to Perth, or cycle 65 miles from Loch Tay to Dundee or mix and match. Perthshire is home to grand scenery, famous trees and glorious wildlife. The route starts from Loch Tay, where the nearby Crannog Centre celebrates Iron Age history. The walking route passes along ancient paths, forest roads and disused railway tracks, whilst the cycling route runs on NCN7 and NCN77, almost all on tarmac.
Enjoy the scenery and wildlife of a river valley rich in native woodlands, birds and mammals. The River Tay system is home to salmon, red squirrels and half of the world’s freshwater pearl mussels. Most walkers will need 4 days to complete the 50-mile journey to Perth via Dunkeld. Most cyclists will complete the 65-mile route from Loch Tay to Dundee via Perth over 2 to 3 days. Both groups can divide their journeys into manageable sections and stay in welcoming places.
This guidebook offers all you need to plan and enjoy the trail on foot and/or bike:
● detailed route descriptions for walkers and cyclists
