Liparische Inseln – wo sind die? Spätestens wenn aber der Name „Stromboli“ fällt, einer von 7 Inseln des Archipels, bekommen Einige eine Ahnung: „irgendwo bei Sizilien“. Genauer gesagt: Die Liparischen (oder auch: Äolischen) Inseln sind eine vulkanische Inselgruppe zwischen Neapel und Sizilien, deren bekanntester Vulkan, der Stromboli, oft in einem Atemzug mit Vesuv und Ätna genannt wird. In der Nebensaison, von April bis Juni und September bis Oktober, bieten die Liparischen Inseln Wanderfreunden abwechslungsreiche Touren unterschiedlichen Schwierigkeitsgrades – jede Insel hat ihr eigenes Flair.

Nach einer Einleitung zur Region bzw. der Wanderinfrastruktur beschreiben die Autoren 21 Tageswanderungen auf sechs der sieben liparischen Inseln. Bei der Tourenauswahl haben die Autoren bewusst auf Vielfalt geachtet: Die Touren sind mal als Strecken-, mal als Rundtour beschrieben und entsprechen verschiedenen Schwierigkeitsniveaus. Alle Touren bieten besondere Highlights; seien es kulturelle oder natürliche Sehenswürdigkeiten oder einfach nur tolle Aussichten. Fast immer gibt es zumindest am Ende eine Einkehrgelegenheit. Wie bei der Reihe „Outdoor Regional“ üblich gibt es bei jeder Tour Hinweise, wieweit die Wanderungen für Familien bzw. Kinder sowie für Hunde geeignet sind. Bei der Orientierung helfen neben der genauen Wegbeschreibung die Karten im Maßstab 1:25.000/1:50.000, die Übersichtskarte in der Umschlagklappe und die GPS-Tracks zu jeder Tour, die kostenlos im Internet heruntergeladen werden können. Das handliche und leichte Format ist ideal für unterwegs.

More specifically: The Liparic (or: Aeolian) Islands are a volcanic archipelago between Naples and Sicily, the most famous volcano, the Stromboli, is often mentioned in the same breath as Vesuvius and Etna. In the off-season, from April to June and September to October, the Aeolian Islands offer hiking enthusiasts varied tours of different levels of difficulty - each island has its own flair.

After an introduction to the region and the hiking infrastructure, the authors describe 21 day hikes on six of the seven Aeolian Islands. When choosing the tours, the authors consciously paid attention to diversity: the tours are sometimes described as route tours, sometimes as circular tours and correspond to different levels of difficulty. All tours offer special highlights; be it cultural or natural sights or just great views. There is almost always a place to stop for refreshments, at least in the end. As is usual with the "Outdoor Regional" series, there are hints on each tour to what extent the hikes are suitable for families, children and dogs. In addition to the exact directions, the maps in 1: 25,000 / 1: 50,000 scale, the overview map in the cover flap and the GPS tracks for each tour, which can be downloaded free of charge from the Internet, help with orientation.
