I primi passi italiani della Francigena muovono da tre valichi – Gran San Bernardo, Monginevro e Moncenisio – per proseguire in Valle d’Aosta o in Valle di Susa, sui due versanti della Dora Riparia. Lungo antichi sentieri e strade romane si scende fino ai vasti orizzonti della pianura tra imponenti fortificazioni, da Bard a Exilles, e abbazie medievali come Novalesa e la Sacra di San Michele. Un fascio di itinerari diversi tra cui scegliere, che si riuniscono a Vercelli, centro di diffusione della prima cristianità.

The first Italian steps of the Francigena start from three passes - Gran San Bernardo, Monginevro and Moncenisio - to continue in the Aosta Valley or in the Susa Valley, on the two sides of the Dora Riparia.
