The route is 134 miles/215 km and is described by guidebook authors Bardwell and Megarry in 5 sections for cyclists, 10 for walkers. They give details of the route with refreshment stops, side-trips and places of interest. There is concise background on John Muir's life, the canal heritage and wildlife and over 90 colour photographs, all on rainproof paper.
