Die fünf vorgestellten Routen haben sich als Islands Klassiker etabliert. Der Laugavegur (55 km), der bekannteste Trek Islands, führt von der Hochlandoase Landmannalaugar durch bunte Rhyolithberge und karge Sand- und Lavawüsten in vier Tagesetappen nach Þórsmörk. Tiefe Schluchten, rauschende Wasserfälle und glitzernde Eiszungen prägen die anspruchsvolle Gebirgswanderung über den Fimmvörðuháls (25 km, 1 bis 2 Tage).

Der Kjalvegur (50 km, 3 bis 4 Tage), eine leichte Tour für Einsteiger, schlängelt sich am Fuß der Eiskappe Langjökull durch das westliche Hochland. Riesige Tafelberge und Schildvulkane begleiten den Wanderer auf dem Öskjuvegur, der die gewaltige ostisländische Lavawildnis Ódáðahraun erschließt. Bei der Durchquerung des Jökulsárgljúfur-Nationalparks (30 km, 2 Tage) steht die Nähe zu einer gigantischen Schlucht mit spektakulären Wasserfällen im Vordergrund. Alle Routen sind hervorragend markiert und mit Ausnahme der letzten mit Wanderhütten ausgestattet.

The five routes presented have established themselves as Icelandic classics. The Laugavegur (55 km), the most famous Trek Island, leads from the highland oasis Landmannalaugar through colorful rhyolite mountains and barren sand and lava deserts to Þórsmörk in four daily stages. Deep gorges, rushing waterfalls and sparkling tongues of ice shape the demanding mountain hike over the Fimmvörðuháls (25 km, 1 to 2 days).

The Kjalvegur (50 km, 3 to 4 days), an easy tour for beginners, winds through the western highlands at the foot of the Langjökull ice cap. Huge table mountains and shield volcanoes accompany the hiker on the Öskjuvegur, which opens up the enormous East Icelandic lava wilderness Ódáðahraun. When crossing the Jökulsárgljúfur National Park (30 km, 2 days), the focus is on the proximity to a gigantic gorge with spectacular waterfalls. All routes are well marked and, with the exception of the last, are equipped with hiking huts.
