Quella dei Monti Sibillini è una catena che si sviluppa, con andamento sud-nord, tra l’Umbria e le Marche, lungo la linea spartiacque Tirreno-Adriatico ed è geograficamente compresa nella sezione umbro-marchigiana dell’Appennino Centrale. Quest’ultimo rappresenta la parte più alta e aspra dell’intero sistema appenninico, con il massiccio del Gran Sasso che raggiunge più a sud i 2912 metri di altitudine e forma un grosso arco, costituito da blocchi montuosi, con prevalente andamento sud-nord, ben definiti e paralleli tra loro, dove i Monti Sibillini ne occupano la zona centrale.

La magnificenza dei Monti Sibillini sta nel loro carattere selvaggio. Il modo per conoscere il gruppo è costituito dai 33 itinerari qui proposti che sono completati da due percorsi a lunga percorrenza: l’Anello Norcia-Castelluccio (2 tappe), la Traversata alta dei Sibillini (4 tappe).

The Sibillini Mountains are a chain that runs from south to north between Umbria and Marche, along the Tyrrhenian-Adriatic watershed line and is geographically included in the Umbria-Marche section of the Central Apennines. The latter represents the highest and most rugged part of the entire Apennine system, with the Gran Sasso massif reaching 2912 meters of altitude further south and forming a large arch, made up of mountain blocks, with a prevailing south-north trend, well-defined and parallel to each other, where the Sibillini Mountains occupy the central area.

The magnificence of the Sibillini Mountains lies in their wild character. The way to get to know the group is made up of the 33 itineraries proposed here which are completed by two long-distance routes: the Norcia-Castelluccio Ring (2 stages), the High Sibillini Crossing (4 stages).
