The Altmühl meanders slowly through the valley, life is peaceful in the pretty little town. Here you can let your soul dangle - and still experience a lot. The Rother hiking guide "Altmühltal" describes 55 varied hikes in the heart of Bavaria, between the Bavarian Jura, Franconian Alb and Franconian Lake District.
Most of the time you move in the extensive Altmühltal nature park. Its foothills extend from Nuremberg to Ingolstadt and from Feuchtwangen to Regensburg. Here it goes through shady beech forests, over barren dry grassy meadows and along calmly flowing waters. Castles, castle ruins and Roman watchtowers line the way. Rock formations form a photogenic backdrop and from the heights the view sweeps into the distance. The fossil museums, in which one encounters specimens of Archeopterix, take you back to the distant past: the primeval bird was discovered in this area. The author Stefan Herbke comes from the Altmühltal. His numerous color photos show the region in all its diversity.
The exact directions, map excerpts with route entry and meaningful elevation profiles for every tour in this book make orientation easy. GPS tracks are also available for download. The hiking guide has been carefully revised for the 6th edition and five tours have been added.
