HIKING AND TREKKING MAPS

The production of hiking and topographic maps adapted for hiking and trekking is very important. We have selected the best maps for each country and excluded certain collections whose quality is insufficient. In all cases, the publication dates are the most recent available from each publisher.

For the most extensively mapped countries, particularly European countries, the average scales range from 1:20,000 to 1:80,000. For most maps covering other continents, the scales are larger: from 1:100,000 to 1:150,000, but the topographic information remains detailed.

• All hiking maps include the necessary information:
• relief indicated by shading and contour lines;
• increasingly, maps feature a GPS grid;
• trail overlays are often created in collaboration with local hiking associations;
• and additional information varies by publisher, such as accommodations, transportation, and other outdoor activities.
