Of the three Lanzo Valleys, the Ala Valley has perhaps been the best known since the invention of subalpine mountain tourism. This largely coincides with the birth of mountaineering and the Italian Alpine Club in the shadow of the Mole Antonelliana in 1863. The valley's dominant rocks, the red-ferruginous serpentinite rock resulting from oxidation, have been the arduous training ground for entire generations of climbers, shaping names destined to occupy a significant place in the history of Western mountaineering.
The volume contains descriptions of 50 multi-pitch routes and 126 single-pitch routes, divided into 31 sectors.
