Pensiamo a Emilio Comici, a Gino Soldà, a Reinhold Messner.
Since 1909, Rocca Pendice has been the rock face of the Paduans, who have rightly made it a symbol. Those who come from the great mountains and naturally snub the Po Valley hills have always been surprised by this peak in the Euganean Hills. But you have to venture into the heart of the rock face to discover its true value, to understand that this isn't just your average valley crag, overpopulated by young people and therefore trendy. You're climbing on a real mountain.
It's no coincidence that the first ascent, in 1909 by the Carugati couple, Mariano Rossi and Antonio Berti, required, despite the modest elevation gain, a bivouac on the rock face. Just like on a real mountain. And it's no coincidence either that "Rocca" has been visited by illustrious mountaineers. Think of Emilio Comici, Gino Soldà, and Reinhold Messner.
Since the 1980s, the entire crag has seen the development of sport climbing, popular with younger generations, including some highly difficult routes.
In recent years, thanks to the tireless work of several young climbers, the crag has seen the opening of additional new routes. The current edition contains a total of 400 single-pitch routes, 100 of which are new, and 39 multi-pitch routes. The entire Rocca Pendice area is also excellently equipped, among the best in Italy, thanks to the collaboration between the Regional Park and the CAI (Italian Alpine Club).
Further updates can also be found on the Pirio crag and other smaller structures scattered throughout the Euganean Hills.
