Il massiccio del Gran Sasso, nello specifico il Corno Grande e il Corno Piccolo, è frequentato assiduamente in tutte le stagioni dagli escursionisti e dagli alpinisti. Anche gli stranieri, negli ultimi anni, hanno scoperto con stupore e meraviglia il nostro gruppo montuoso nella sua veste invernale ed è sempre più sovente incontrare comitive di appassionati che percorrono le varie vie della montagna anche nella stagione fredda. Già con le prime nevi, il Gran Sasso cambia totalmente aspetto e i canaloni sassosi, totalmente ricoperti da una coltre bianca, si trasformano d’incanto in itinerari logici da percorrere, ovviamente con le dovute accortezze e attrezzature. Per avere una visione d’insieme delle sue due cime principali nella stagione invernale, oltre ai numerosi mezzi che il mondo digitale ci mette a disposizione, sembrava però mancare una pubblicazione cartacea ove si descrivono le sole vie classiche di salita.

Girovagando in inverno mi sono imbattuto diverse volte in appassionati con difficoltà a orientarsi nell’individuazione degli itinerari e, nelle diverse circostanze, ho fornito loro suggerimenti e chiarimenti considerata la mia lunga frequentazione dei luoghi in tutte le stagioni. Nel corso degli anni, il ripetersi di queste situazioni, mi ha fatto maturare l’idea di redigere una pubblicazione che fornisse un pratico e utile supporto al riguardo. Sul mercato esistono delle guide che comprendono i vari gruppi montuosi dell’Appennino, mentre mancava, a mio modesto avviso, una pubblicazione di facile fruizione e sufficientemente illustrata che permettesse all’escursionista evoluto e all’alpinista medio, di avere un quadro completo degli itinerari che percorrono i due Corni nella sola stagione fredda. Per colmare quella che considero una lacuna, ho pensato di proporre questo mio progetto editoriale che spero raggiunga lo scopo prefissato, perché il Gran Sasso rappresenta nel panorama escursionistico/alpinistico una montagna importante, l’unica di stampo alpino presente in Appennino.

The Gran Sasso massif, specifically the Corno Grande and the Corno Piccolo, is assiduously frequented in all seasons by hikers and mountaineers. Even foreigners, in recent years, have discovered with amazement and wonder our mountain group in its winter guise and it is increasingly common to meet groups of enthusiasts who travel the various mountain routes even in the cold season. Already with the first snow, the Gran Sasso completely changes appearance and the rocky gullies, completely covered by a white blanket, magically transform into logical itineraries to follow, obviously with the necessary precautions and equipment. To have an overall view of its two main peaks in the winter season, in addition to the numerous means that the digital world makes available to us, a paper publication describing only the classic ascent routes seemed to be missing.

Wandering in winter I have come across several enthusiasts with difficulty in orienting themselves in identifying the itineraries and, in different circumstances, I have provided them with suggestions and clarifications considering my long frequentation of the places in all seasons. Over the years, the repetition of these situations has made me mature the idea of drawing up a publication that provides practical and useful support in this regard. On the market there are guides that include the various mountain groups of the Apennines, while there was a lack, in my humble opinion, of an easy-to-use and sufficiently illustrated publication that would allow the advanced hiker and the average mountaineer, to have a complete picture of the itineraries that run through the two Corni in the cold season only. To fill what I consider a gap, I thought of proposing this editorial project of mine that I hope will achieve the intended purpose, because the Gran Sasso represents an important mountain in the hiking/mountaineering panorama, the only one of Alpine style present in the Apennines.
