Der Weser-Radweg führt durch eine Region, die vielfältiger kaum sein könnte. Auf dem Weg von Hann. Münden nach Cuxhaven erfahren Sie, warum der Weser-Radweg schon lange zu den beliebtesten Radwegen des Landes zählt.
Die Weser ist einer der bedeutendsten Flüsse in Deutschland. Von ihrer Entstehung in Hann. Münden, wo sie aus Werra und Fulda hervorgeht, bis zu ihrer Mündung in die Nordsee bei Bremerhaven legt der Fluss mehr als 450 Kilometer zurück. Anfangs bahnt sie sich ihren Weg durch die Höhenzüge des Weserberglandes mit Burgen, Schlössern und Fachwerkstädten, die gut zur parallel verlaufenden Deutschen Märchenstraße passen. Bis zu 500 Meter erheben sich die Buntsandsteinkuppen dieses weitläufigen Berg- und Hügellandes zwischen Münden und Minden.
Durch die Porta Westfalica tritt der Fluss dann hinaus in das weite Land der Norddeutschen Tiefebene. Auf zahlreichen Abschnitten sucht sich die Weser in weiten Schlangenlinien ihren Weg gen Norden, umsäumt vom saftigen Grün der Wiesen und dem leuchtenden Rot der hübschen Backsteinbauten. Hier radeln Sie durch eindrückliche Marsch- und Moorlandschaften und lassen pittoreske Wind- und Wassermühlen an sich vorbeiziehen, treffen aber auch auf die Städte Nienburg und Verden.
Bremen, die größte Stadt auf der Tour und zugleich kleinstes deutsches Bundesland, bildet mit seiner historischen Altstadt und der Roland-Statue einen besonderen kulturellen Höhepunkt auf Ihrer Weser-Reise. Nachdem Sie die alte Hansestadt besucht haben, tauchen Sie in das Wesermarschland entlang der Unter- und Außenweser ein. Von Bremerhaven geht es dann gut 55 Kilometer entlang der Deutschen Bucht und des Nationalparks Wattenmeer nach Cuxhaven. Dort bilden Deiche, Windmühlen, reetgedeckte Häuser, Schafe und Möwen die Wegbegleiter auf dem letzten Stück Ihrer Radtour.
In den Jahren 2013 und 2014 wurden im Rahmen der „Qualitätsoffensive Weser-Radweg“ umfangreiche Verbesserungen am Radweg vorgenommen. Wichtigstes Kriterium war es, für eine möglichst wesernahe Streckenführung einen weiteren Ausbau des Weges voranzutreiben. Die nicht direkt am Weg liegenden Sehenswürdigkeiten und sehenswerten Orte werden durch ein ergänzendes touristisches Leitsystem eingebunden. Außerdem sind im Bereich von Hann. Münden bis nach Bremen fast durchgehend beschilderte Alternativrouten am jeweils anderen Ufer ausgebaut. Zahlreiche Fähren, Wehre und Brücken können für ein Wechseln auf die gegenüberliegende Uferseite genutzt werden, sodass das Fahren von Schleifen ermöglicht wird.

The Weser is one of the most important rivers in Germany. From their creation in Hann. Münden, where it emerges from Werra and Fulda, up to its confluence with the North Sea near Bremerhaven, the river covers more than 450 kilometers. Initially, it made its way through the ridges of the Weser Uplands with castles, palaces and half-timbered towns that fit well with the parallel German Fairy Tale Route. The Buntsandsteinkuppen rise up to 500 meters in this extensive mountain and hill country between Münden and Minden.
The river then passes through the Porta Westfalica into the vast country of the North German Plain. On numerous sections, the Weser looks for its way to the north in wide serpentine lines, surrounded by the lush green of the meadows and the bright red of the pretty brick buildings. Here you cycle through impressive marsh and moor landscapes and let picturesque wind and water mills pass by, but also meet the cities of Nienburg and Verden.
Bremen, the largest city on the tour and at the same time the smallest German state, with its historic old town and the Roland statue forms a special cultural highlight on your Weser trip. After visiting the old Hanseatic city, immerse yourself in the Weser Marshland along the Lower and Outer Weser. From Bremerhaven it is then a good 55 kilometers along the German Bight and the Wadden Sea National Park to Cuxhaven. There dikes, windmills, thatched houses, sheep and seagulls are the companions on the last part of your bike tour.
In 2013 and 2014, extensive improvements were made to the cycle path as part of the "Weser Cycle Path Quality Offensive". The most important criterion was to continue to expand the route so that the route was as close as possible to the Weser. The sights and places not worth seeing are located on the way and are integrated by means of a supplementary tourist guide system. In addition, in the area of Hann. Münden to Bremen, almost continuously signposted alternative routes on the other bank. Numerous ferries, weirs and bridges can be used to switch to the opposite side of the river so that loops can be driven.
