So weit sind sie nicht voneinander entfernt, die beiden Ursprünge von Rhone und Aare: Nur wenige Kilometer Luftlinie trennen die beiden und doch treffen sich die Flüsse nie. Die europäische Wasserscheide, die in diesem Gebiet verläuft, sorgt dafür, dass sich die beiden Gebirgsflüsse in unterschiedliche Richtungen davon „machen“: die Rhone mit Umweg über den Genfer See ins Mittelmeer und die Aare nach Norden zum Rhein und in die Nordsee. Egal, ob Sie sich für den Rhone-Radweg oder den Aare-Radweg entscheiden, Ihr Weg führt Sie durch urige Alpendörfer, weltgewandte und weltbekannte Städte und durch atemberaubende Natur. 
Der Rhone-Radweg etwa geleitet Sie durch das mittelalter­liche Sierre nach Sion, das von Weitem schon an seinen beiden Burghügeln erkennbar ist. Am Genfer See erleben Sie mediterranes Flair und die von der UNESCO geschützten Weinhänge von Lavaux tun ihr Übriges um Sie in Mittelmeeratmosphäre zu versetzen. Dass Wein in der Schweiz geschätzt wird, zeigt sich nicht nur im Lavaux, sondern auch im Wallis, etwa im Weinmuseum in Salgesch oder in den Weingärten rund um Visp. Mit der Olympiastadt Lausanne und Montreux liegen außerdem zwei Weltmetropolen auf Ihrem Weg entlang der Rhone, bis Ihre Reise schließlich in der Wissenschaftsstadt Genf endet.
Auch die Reise an der Aare ist nicht minder spannend. Schon zu Beginn erwartet Sie ein Naturschauspiel sondergleichen: Zwischen Innertkirchen und Meiringen hat sich die Aare tief in den Kalkfelsen eingegraben und das Naturschauspiel der Aareschlucht geschaffen. Falls Sie noch mehr über die Schweizer Bauernkultur erfahren wollen, so lohnt sich ein Abstecher weg von der Aare zum Freilichtmuseum Ballenberg. In Interlaken tritt die Bergkulisse nochmals besonders hervor, von der Stadt haben Sie nämlich einen atemberaubenden Blick auf das berühmte Panorama von Eiger, Mönch und Jungfrau! Mit der Schweizer Hauptstadt Bern liegt außerdem ein besonderes kulturelles Schmuckstück auf Ihrem Weg: Neben den zahlreichen Museen sollten Sie sich auf jeden Fall Zeit für einen Bummel durch die von der UNESCO als Welterbe ausgezeichnete Altstadt nehmen! Vorbei an Biel/Bienne und durch das Seeland erreichen Sie die Barockstadt Solothurn mit der berühmten St.-Ursen-Kathedrale. Entlang der gemächlich fließenden Aare, vorbei an Aarau und Brugg, radeln Sie schließlich dem Ende Ihrer Tour entgegen: Bei Koblenz mündet die Aare in den Rhein.

Die Gesamtlänge des Rhone-Radweges beträgt rund 332 Kilometer, die des Aare-Radweges rund 315 Kilometer. Die Varianten und Ausflüge entlang der Rhone haben eine Länge von 36 Kilometern, an der Aare finden Sie Varianten und Ausflüge in der Länge von rund 24 Kilometern vor.

The two origins of Rhone and Aare are not that far apart: the two are separated by a straight line and yet the rivers never meet. The European watershed that runs in this area ensures that the two mountain rivers “leave” in different directions: the Rhone with a detour via Lake Geneva to the Mediterranean and the Aare to the north to the Rhine and the North Sea. Regardless of whether you choose the Rhone Cycle Path or the Aare Cycle Path, your path leads you through quaint alpine villages, cosmopolitan and world-famous cities and breathtaking nature.
The Rhone cycle path, for example, leads you through the medieval Sierre to Sion, which can be recognized from afar by its two castle hills. At Lake Geneva you will experience Mediterranean flair and the UNESCO-protected Lavaux wine slopes will do the rest to put you in a Mediterranean atmosphere. The fact that wine is valued in Switzerland is not only evident in Lavaux, but also in Valais, for example in the wine museum in Salgesch or in the vineyards around Visp. With the Olympic cities of Lausanne and Montreux, there are also two major cities on your way along the Rhone, until your journey ends in the science city of Geneva.
The journey along the Aare is no less exciting. A natural spectacle awaits you right from the start: Between Innertkirchen and Meiringen, the Aare has dug deep into the limestone cliffs and created the natural spectacle of the Aare Gorge. If you want to learn more about Swiss farming culture, it is worth taking a detour away from the Aare to the Ballenberg open-air museum. In Interlaken, the mountain backdrop is particularly prominent, because from the city you have a breathtaking view of the famous panorama of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau! With the Swiss capital of Bern, there is also a special cultural gem on your way: in addition to the numerous museums, you should definitely take time to stroll through the old town, which has been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO! Passing Biel / Bienne and through the Seeland you reach the baroque city of Solothurn with the famous St. Ursen Cathedral. Finally, you cycle along the leisurely flowing Aare, past Aarau and Brugg, towards the end of your tour: at Koblenz the Aare flows into the Rhine.

The total length of the Rhone cycle path is around 332 kilometers, that of the Aare cycle path around 315 kilometers. The variants and excursions along the Rhone have a length of 36 kilometers, on the Aare you will find variants and excursions with a length of around 24 kilometers.
