A new edition of the Alpe Adria cycle route guide, revised, updated, and expanded, takes into account the railway rehabilitation works, adapted to the needs of cyclists for comfort and safety, the new cycle routes (also suggesting alternative routes to towns such as Bordano, Osoppo, San Daniele del Friuli, Cividale del Friuli, Clauiano, and Cormons), and the upgraded cross-border rail link.
The guide describes the route from Villach, in Carinthia, Austria, to Grado in Friuli Venezia Giulia: just over 200 km with a variety of landscapes, including rugged valleys and rocky mountain peaks, rolling moraine hills, the fertile Friulian plain, the tranquil lagoon, and the ever-changing upper Adriatic coast. Along this route, you'll encounter nature reserves and medieval villages, Renaissance fortresses and churches of artistic and spiritual value, as well as areas producing renowned, authentic wines and cheeses.
The Alpe Adria cycle path is a sort of backbone of the Friuli Venezia Giulia cycle tourism network, which includes routes to other significant places of natural, historical and artistic interest.
