The AIDA (Alta Italia Da Attraversare) cycle route runs through Northern Italy from the Susa Valley to Trieste, crossing the major cities of the upper Po Valley and joining existing regional routes. It is a project born within the FIAB (Italian Federation of Environment and Bicycles) and is part of the national Bicitalia network.
AIDA is for those who dream of cycling from the Egyptian Museum to Leonardo's Last Supper, from the Arena to the Serenissima, from the lands of Pasolini to the Central European atmospheres of the City of Coffee.
This guide describes the western part of AIDA with its 500 km from the Moncenisio Pass to Verona, discovering the natural and landscape riches but also the artistic and human ones of Northwest Italy. From the French border, the Susa Valley leads to the Savoy and contemporary atmospheres of Turin; the vast and silent rural lands of Vercelli and Novara become, beyond the Ticino, the prelude to immersion in the metropolitan universe of Milan; the vineyards of Franciacorta take us to the heart of Brescia, the Lioness of Italy; finally the morainic hills that act as a terrace to Lake Garda descend gently to Verona, the city of the Arena where you can listen to the notes of Verdi's Aida... A safe and flat route, full of interest and suitable for everyone, described in detail with historical-cultural information boxes and the indication of two important cycle-tourist rings around Turin and Milan.
