Description

cycling guide

The AIDA (Alta Italia Da Attraversare) cycle route runs through Northern Italy from the French border in the Susa Valley to the Slovenian border in Trieste, through the centres of the major cities in the upper Po Valley, allowing you to cycle, almost in a dream, from the Egyptian Museum in Turin to Leonardo’s Last Supper in Milan, from the Verona Arena to the Serenissima, from the lands of Pasolini to the Central European atmospheres of the City of Coffee. This guide describes the eastern part of AIDA from Verona to Trieste, showing a North-East that, as soon as you move away from the main traffic routes, reveals itself to be a treasure chest of scenic and artistic beauty to be enjoyed by bicycle. From Verona you pass through Vicenza through the places of Romeo and Juliet; the Bacchiglione river takes you to Padua; the Brenta Canal with its Venetian villas in Mestre and Venice and the winding course of the Sile in Treviso. Oderzo and Sacile are the stages towards Pordenone; the rugged landscapes of the Magredi, the Tagliamento and the Friulian plain lead us to Udine; finally the Collio and the Carso are the prelude to the blue of the Trieste sea. A safe and flat route of almost 500 km full of interest and suitable for everyone, described in detail with historical-cultural in-depth boxes, with the indication of significant variants such as the former Treviso-Ostiglia railway and with useful descriptions to continue our ride beyond Verona towards the lower Garda or towards Mantua along the Mincio, or beyond Trieste towards the east (Giordano Cottur cycle path) or towards the south (Parenzana cycle path).
